Calcium bromide dihydrate is a polyvalent inorganic compound. It is used in the process of water softening, and as an additive to fertilizers and animal feeds. Calcium bromide dihydrate is one of the most widely used chemicals for water treatment. It can be activated by adding calcium chloride or magnesium sulfate to increase its effectiveness. The hydration reaction is exothermic, which means that heat is released during the reaction. This heat must be removed from the system in order to maintain a constant temperature. If not, the reaction will stop because it cannot continue without sufficient energy input.
